Global Security Seminar

TrustMedia invites journalists to apply for the 2013 Global Security Seminar, to be held from 23-25 September in Tbilisi, Georgia.

This major seminar will bring together high level security experts, authoritative commentators and journalists for a series of lively presentations and debates addressing some of the most pressing issues around security and terrorism today.

Themes for discussion will include:

-Georgia, its post-Soviet neighbours and the fight for resources in the region;

- Insurgency in the Caucasus;

- Security, terrorism, and the media;

- Reporting on drones and casualties;

- The state of al Qaeda

- Rape in conflict during civil unrest;

- Nuclear proliferations/WMDs;

- Cyber warfare and the security of information.

Within these discussions, participants are encouraged to look critically at the role of the media and how journalists can avoid being exploited by terrorists to help them achieve their goals. The seminar will also have a practical training element for participating journalists and an evening panel discussion with a high level local speaker.

Eligibility:

We are looking for journalists who have a proven interest and track record in reporting on security issues and conflict and who are willing not just to listen but also to put forward their own ideas and to enter the debate. Applicants should have at least 7 years journalistic experience working in print, broadcasting or online media.

True to its name, journalists from across the globe are eligible for the GSS, but those from Iran, Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, Russia, Armenia, Turkey, Georgia, Algeria, Mali, Nigeria, India, and Yemen are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be fluent in English as the event will not have translation facilities.
